ASSOCIATE ARTIST ALCOVE
STEVE LEWIS
"Impersonators - New Paintings After AI" by STEVE LEWIS
Two new series of paintings by Steve Lewis will be exhibited in the Associate Artist Alcove at RRCA in September. Both the Elvis Impersonator Series and the Knitwits: Barbie Series, are based on images generated by AI text to image programs. These series focus on the very American icons. By writing various descriptive prompts about these figures, Lewis has been able to use AI algorithms to generate images that are both captivating, thought-provoking, and at times disturbing. He is interested in the ways that AI can be used to create images that are beyond the realm of human imagination and to push the boundaries of what is possible in visual art. Through this work, he challenges our perceptions of what is real and what is artificial, and to raise questions about the ethics of AI. in art, especially painting. Lewis hopes to provide a glimpse into a future where technology and creativity are intertwined in new and exciting ways.

"To advance RRCA as the focal point for cultural, educational and artistic enrichment and perpetuate a sense of community; It does so through the presentation of exhibits, the development of artists, and by attracting regional audiences."
OUR COMMITMENT:
"For decades, the arts have been a crucial outlet for many. Art is not only an avenue to express one's feelings, but it is a powerful way to be seen and heard. This is especially important for the disenfranchised/marginalized within our community. At RRCA, equality and equity for all is our core belief. We welcome all patrons and artist with support and acceptance. RRCA is your community art center, and we will continue to learn and implement ways to remain an inclusive organization; a safe space for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and persons with disabilities."
